The authors of The Dewberry Families of America and Their Ancestry are first cousins and have known each other their entire lives. Sidney Alton Dewberry spent his career as a criminal justice officer and Sidney Oliver Dewberry continues to spend his life as a civil engineer and land surveyor. They both have four children.

Both authors come from large families where mom and dad were the boss, brothers, sisters, cousins, and grandparents were always around, religion played an important part of their upbringing, and the nuclear family was still intact in their lives. Both are college graduates and have several interests including churches, gardening, reading, writing, boating, being husbands, community leaders, fathers, and grandparents which keeps them very busy.

Sidney Alton was the primary researcher and writer for the book and Sidney Oliver was the primary "butt kicker."
